Hera Day: Serving with Purpose at the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane

On Sunday, March 8th, the sisters of the Alpha Delta Alpha Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega spent a meaningful morning together participating in the Ronald McDonald House Make‑A‑Meal program in Spokane. With aprons on and hearts full, our sisters prepared and served a warm, comforting brunch for the families staying at the House—families who are navigating some of the most challenging moments of their lives while caring for seriously ill or injured children.

Our menu was a true team effort and a delicious one at that! Residents enjoyed an egg casserole, scrambled eggs, a build-your-own yogurt bar with yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, and granola, fresh croissants with jam, mini chocolate-chip and strawberry muffins, coffee, orange juice and apple juice. The mini-muffins were an unexpected star of the morning - enjoyed by the kids, and truthfully, just as popular with the adults.

Participating sisters included Adrienne Torre, Colleen Stevens, Kristin Vaughn, and Ashlee Cribb, with special thanks to Ashlee’s husband, Walt, who jumped in to help in the kitchen. Together, we chopped, stirred, baked, served, and cleaned—laughing, connecting, and supporting one another along the way.

It was a beautiful reminder of what it means to live our values: to seek the heights not only in our own lives, but in the lives of those around us.

The Ronald McDonald House of Spokane provides a home‑away‑from‑home for families traveling for their child’s medical care. Being able to ease even a small part of their burden—by offering a warm meal and a welcoming smile—felt like a privilege. We were grateful for the chance to contribute to their mission and to spend time together in such a meaningful way.

Service has always been at the heart of Alpha Chi Omega, and this day was no exception. Sharing time, food, and compassion with these families—and with each other—made for a Sunday we won’t soon forget.

This event also beautifully reflected the spirit of Hera Day, Alpha Chi Omega’s annual day of service and giving. By supporting the Ronald McDonald House and the families it serves, our chapter lived out the values of kindness, generosity, and community that Hera Day celebrates—proving once again that real, strong women lift others up in meaningful ways.
